The Producers

Graham and Eileen Petrie

Walbundry Run Galloways is an Australian beef and lamb production entity located not far from the rural hamlet of Walbundrie, New South Wales.

Starting out as a Registered Stud we have been breeding Galloway cattle, being our breed of choice, since 2011.

We have just recently introduced prime lamb production to the farm operation mix. The Australian Wiltipoll breed was added as part of a diversification program to become a part of Walbundry Run’s livestock production system.

This aspect of our farm operation, we know, will be a challenge, however, our goals are clear and focused and we look forward to sharing our future experiences with you via ‘The Producers Blog’ as we move forward with this part of our journey.

Eileen

Born in a rural settlement west of Albury and raised on a farm, Eileen is no stranger to rural life. Upon completion of schooling Eileen left home and commenced her nurse training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. Eileen went on to work in various hospitals around the country following her husband then finally both deciding to settle in Albury to raise their children and to continue in their chosen professions.

Eileen digressed from the General Nursing field and became qualified as a Mental Health Nurse. Further studies resulted in gaining a Masters Degree in Nursing Studies and a Doctorate [PhD] citing ‘Workplace Stress and Burnout’ as her thesis through Action Research. Eileen currently works full time at a local University and works the occasional casual shift at a Mental Health facility to maintain her nursing accreditation.

Graham

Graham, a city boy growing up on the northern peninsular of Sydney, left home at age 18 and became a full time soldier with the Australian Regular Army. Corps allocated on enlistment, Graham was earmarked to become a RAEME Tradesman. On completion of Recruit and Trade training Graham worked at a number of locations around the country with family in tow. After departure from the military, Graham went on to follow a career with the NSW Ambulance Service as a  front-line Ambulance Paramedic notching up 32 years before retiring to rural life as a livestock producer.

With the purchase of the farm, a new chapter in Graham’s life had begun. Graham continued to move forward with the purchase of livestock from ‘Glenayr’ Aleena, New South Wales. The foundation herd consisted of nineteen (19) Galloway cattle including a calf born the day of transport.
